A performance of contemporary jazz led by prominent young Irish jazz musicians David Lyttle and Mark McKnight with special guests.
Cork saxophonist Karl Rooney is emerging as one of the most sought after musicians on the Irish jazz scene. He has been offered scholarships to study at Skidmore Jazz Institute (NY), The Julliard School (NY), Berklee College of Music (Boston) and has performed with leading Irish musicians Louis Stewart, Ronan Guilfoyle, Nigel Mooney and English trumpeter Gerald Presencer.
Belfast jazz guitarist Mark McKnight is a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music, Boston. Whilst attending the college on scholarship, he studied with many of the world’s foremost jazz educators and received awards in recognition of outstanding musicianship. Recent highlights included a tour with leading young Scottish saxophonist Konrad Wiszniewski.
Bassist Cormac O’Brien is a key figure on the Dublin jazz scene. He is a graduate of Newpark Music School under Ronan Guilfoyle and has studied with Dave Liebman, Steve Coleman and Jean Toussaint. Cormac regularly performs with leading Irish musicians Mike Nielsen and Tommy Halferty as well as visiting artists such as Bobby Watson.
Drummer David Lyttle has received scholarships to study at the Banff Centre (Canada) and Skidmore Jazz Institute (NY). He regularly performs with leading figures on the Dublin jazz scene and was recently described by the Irish News as a key figure on the Belfast scene. David has performed with visiting artists such as Jamie Baum (USA), Ken Peplowski (USA) and recently completed an Irish tour with New York musicians Ron Gozzo and Carlo DeRosa.
