Haider Rahman is a talented, young Eastern Classical flautist from Pakistan. Having recently arrived in London he has quickly established himself as a delightful soloist as well as a versatile musician. He performs principally with tabla or guitar, sometimes both, but has also recently been diversifying by collaborating with African and jazz musicians. He has recently been accepted as pupil of renowned flautist Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia to further develop his love of Eastern Classical Music. Haiders performances include the London Mela, World Music Festivals around the world, Theatre plays, Indian Dance workshops, performances at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and even a Rock Festival. He also represented Pakistan as the only flute player at the All World Ghazal Festival in Malaysia in 1996. He is a musician of the LMN scheme. He was awarded the title of Best Amateur flute player of Pakistan in 1997 by the All Pakistan Music Conference. He was also awarded Honorary Membership of the Literacy Brigade for composing and performing the background score for several educational theatrical performances and participation both on and off stage in the politically geared play ‘Lok Raj’. In the position of Assistant General Secretary in the Millennium Festival 2000, he directed and performed in the musical evening of the festival. In the All Pakistan Music Conference, the largest non-government organization in the country, Haider achieved First (1997), second (1996) and third (1995) positions and was awarded with Meraj, Mazari and Ghazanfar Medals.
