In the time since pianist/ composer Roberta Piket returned to her native New York, the New England Conservatory graduate has played professionally as a sidewoman with David Liebman, Rufus Reid, Lionel Hampton, Mickey Roker, Billy Mintz, Eliot Zigmund and Benny Golson. A gifted composer, Roberta placed second in the first annual Thelonious Monk BMI Composers’ Competition. She has also performed her music at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and all over New York, including Smalls, the Blue Note, Birdland and the Knitting Factory. ‘September of Tears’, released in Japan, finds Roberta joining forces with Rufus Reid and Billy Hart for an adventurous program of originals and reworked standards. An upcoming release features the virtuosic gifts of Roberta’s new trio with bassist Ratzo Harris and drummer Billy Mintz.
New York based jazz flutist/ composer Jamie Baum has worked with a long list of leading international musicians including Kenny Werner, Tom Harrell, Fred Hersch, Donald Brown, Kenny Barron, Randy Brecker, Dave Douglas, Uri Caine, Paul Motian and George Russell. She has toured extensively in the US, Europe, South America and Asia, with performances at notable venues such as the Blue Note, Sweet Rhythm, Knitting Factory and Blues Alley. Baum has received much acclaim for her three CDs as a leader: ‘Sight Unheard’ (with Kenny Werner and Dave Douglas) received four stars from Downbeat as did her newest CD,
‘Moving Forward, Standing Still.’ Jamie holds numerous Downbeat awards including the ‘98, ‘99, ‘01 and ‘02 poll for Talent Deserving Wider Recognition, the ‘03 and ‘04 poll for Rising Star and was Downbeat’s Best Flutist for 2004. She was also nominated for Jazz Journal’s 2005 Flutist of the Year award.
