The Point Bar, Magilligan
Part of Between The Lines 2009
Ballycastle Writers was formed in 1990 by poet and publisher Joan Newman who taught the group until 1996 before moving from Ballycastle with her daughter Kate to live in Donegal. Subsequent course tutors kept the creative flame alive; the group currently has 20 active members who meet weekly in Rathmoyle Library. Many of the writers have been individually published and the group has published one anthology, Rhythm of Hearts, the title taken from one of Joan Newman’s poems: “I am floating in arms linked in loosely woven fingers, rocked to the rhythm of heart ”.
The group will run a range of workshops and host readings in 2009 to celebrate its tenth year including participating in the Let me Take You To the Island Festival, a residential weekend of writing held each September on Rathlin Island.
The reading in the Point Bar is organized in association with the Creative Writers Network.
